Its 1995. Baggy jeans, circular sunglasses and various opportunities to capture a moment with a Polaroid. The Silver screen was dominated by quirky comedies such as Ben Stiller's "Reality Bites", Adam Sandler's derelict attempts at slapstick comedy and Disney's animated features. So where would one classify Sylvester Stallone's attempt at Judge Dredd?
Like most 12 year olds, I really wanted to see Sly in action. He was after all the same bloke who took out Ivan Drago in Rocky 4, the man who ripped Wesley Snipes head off in Demolition man and a man who liberated Afghan soldiers in Rambo 3. There was no telling what the 1995 version of Judge Dredd with provide us with. Regrettably, it was a pure flop!!! Danny Cannon may have read the abridged version of the comic as most of the significant characters were excluded. Judge Dredd was also supposed to be ruthless... i.e. He was judge, jury and enforcer making him the most lethal entity on the street. So where are we now? Well apparently the reboot is set for release in the US summer of 2012. So my questions are:
Who is going to take the lead role of Judge Dredd?
Your favourite choice of Director?
My opinion... Judge Dredd needs to be selected from the following candidates:
Channing Tatum
Ray Stevenson
Jason Statham
Gerard Butler
Clive Owen
Would love to hear the opinions of the Islander Republic! Who should be the next Judge Dredd?
