Captain America throwing more than his mighty shield - Cast selection blows

So, after months of waiting in anticipation for the man who will don the infamous star spangled red, white and blue costume... I am unmoved. Correction, I am deeply unmoved. Chris Evans, the star of many slapstick comedies such as "Not another teen movie" and Fantastic Four.... oh wait that's supposed to be a serious movie... anywho, for some odd reason, Chris Evans will be taking the mantle. Evans played the infamous Human torch a.k.a Johnny Storm. My question is, how does a bloke like Chris Evans graduate from cheesy lacklustre support roles into a significant storyline in the Marvel Universe? Also bare in mind that he will effectively represent the Avenger team... as a matter of fact he leads the team!! So in essence acclaimed actors such as Edward Norton (the Hulk), Robert Downey jnr. (Iron Man) will be the supporting cast to Chris Evans!! So in conclusion, after a well constructed integrated storyline... Marvel Comics are due for an epic fail should they not reconsider giving the role of Captain America to Chris Evans. I will bet a banana split on that one ;)
