As you may have guessed by now, I was one of the fortunate folk to be at Newlands Cricket Ground last night, when we gave the Aussies yet another hiding. Despite the fantastic atmosphere, the consistent smells of burning boerewors, the ineffective chants from various cricket fans (primarily Australian) and the immediate change in weather conditions.. there was something lacking in Newlands last nite.
The component that was lacking happened to the presence of a spirit.... the comeback spirit. I felt as that the R200 I spent on a ticket was not worth it in the end. The Aussies decided to start hitting the ball in the latter part of the cricket match. It seems that the days of a Ricky Ponting Century in 120 balls has evaded us. Michael Hussey's emergence as a lethal ODI batsman in international cricket is slowly being embroiled by an incredibly bad patch. Dave Hussey seemed to have taken the mantle of his fallen brother.... but disappointed last nite as well. Thankfully James Hopes and a fairly new entrant in ODIs, Callum Ferguson managed to restore some pride in the inning’s score. When the revival began, the lights were cut out. This is somewhat reminiscent of the movie, "Major League 3" (by no means an Oscar Award winning effort), where the coach of the villain team is on the verge of losing a game to a comical yet ever popular coach from a minor league team.
